Another little shawlette in a half circle shape. I used some Smoothie Sock yarn for this in shades of khaki and watermelon and red. The Demiluna (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/demiluna-shawl) shawl is a lovely shape to wear over a summer jacket.

I chose Holden to knit this beautiful bright summery yarn a generous yarn gift from a fellow knitter. The wool is Knitting Goddess 4ply sock yarn which has cashmere in it. An absolutely lovely yarn to knit with and a very quick pattern to knit. I tried to leave the pattern at the bottom unblocked to keep the ruffled shape. I really love this and can’t wait to wear it.

I love this time of the year as suddenly one week into February the days are getting longer and the sun is up earlier. On the way to school, I spotted lots of signs of spring with new buds on trees and snowdrops in gardens.

Last week I finished a present for my sister – a Blue/Grey Baktus. It seeemed to take a very long time to knit. I used J C Rennie 100% lambswool bought from my current favourite wool shop in Crouch End called Nest. I finished the ends with some beads, the centre bead is a large laborodite and there are smaller faceted laborodites and grey pearls at the ends. This wool washes and blocks so beautifully.

I still worry about the quality of my knitting and whether or not I have got it right when I knit for others. These items made people happy!

New Year – New resolutions once again. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when I made last years.

Knitting resolutions -

To knit the Guernsey inspired dress from Knitting on Top of the World and wear it before it gets too warm

To knit a full shawl in the lace weight I have in my stash

To knit more fetchings and berets throughout the year not just in the week before Christmas!

Stitching resolutions

To complete the full circle skirt I started in September!

To make another fifties inspired summer frock

To make a shift tunic from my sale buy from Liberty

To use up the box of patchwork hexagons I discovered last March!

If I manage to do these I will fulfil my last resolution

To undertake activities which make me happy!

Northern Lights, finally onto the colourwork

After months of leaving this knitting languishing in the bottom of my knitting bag, I got on with it and finished the sleeves and body. On Friday, I started on the colourwork which is going really well. I really hope to get this done by the end of October and get some wear out of it this winter.

Iknit September 11th 2010

I went along to iknit on Saturday. This is the third time and I really enjoyed the visit. I took my sister with me who splurged on lots of lovely wool from Artisan Yarns.

I also bought some fab skiens from her stall. The first was a beautiful lace weight in a French Navy and the second was a lovely DK 100% cashmere in a purple/indigo colour. I am still deciding what to do with the cashmere but I think the lace weight is going to be a Camping 1/2 knit shawl.

I also bought two skeins of smoothie sock from the Artist’s palette. This is going to be knitted up into a Daybreak Shawl. I love the colours and the two skeins compliment each other very well.

I also bought a lovely knitting needle brooch – still trying to find out the name of the seller and some fab lego head stitch markers from The Bothered Owl. Along with two more balls of Aran for berets, I think I had a great haul.

I was also very pleased to receive lots of lovely comments on my Travelling woman shawl which I wore on Saturday. Knitters are such lovely people!

A/W10/11 Full Circle Skirt

I have been firmly in love with 1950′s early 1960′s fashion for as long as I can remember and have many pieces of original and copied styles in my wardrobes. Last Summer 09 I made a full circle skirt which I have worn lots to work and at home. Today I am going to cut and make another skirt which will be made out of a very dark burgundy medium weight polyester. I was convinced when I found the material in my favourite material shop – Jersey Vogue that it was wool but the owner told me that it was an Italian polyester which was used for suits. Three metres of the material, plus lining, zip and thread came to under £20! Over the summer I also purchased a lovely net petticoat from Toast. It has three layers of fine net and gives a lovely fullness without any stiffness. Although I love 50′s look, I want to try to keep the up to date, the softer net is nicer to wear. It was quite hard photographing the fabric as the weight kept pulling it off the dummy and the light and flash kept taking away the true colour.

Second Travelling Woman Shawl

My second shawl, this time I did three repeats of Chart A to make it a little bigger. In fact with the wool I had left over there was enough to do another repeat. The yarn is Malabrigo – sock, the wool is red with a white fleck. I could not wait to show a picture so here it is artfully blocking on a blue bath towel!

Purple Splodge dress finished

I actually finished this in June and wore it to work and on holiday. I love this dress, it can be dressed up or down. To work I wore it with high wedges and jewellery, on holiday with flat sandals and a shell necklace. I was really pleased with the buttons which I got from a vintage fair and have a retro swirly pattern on them. I am still contemplating whether or not make a thin belt. I am keeping my eye out for an original buckle to add to it.
